Editing the dataset name and description
It is good practice to rename the major datasets in your history to
remind yourself later what each one represents. To do this, open the
dataset in your history panel (on the right) by clicking its name,
then click on the pencil icon (red arrow). A form will appear in the
center panel that allows you to change some of Galaxy's information
about the dataset (known as meta-data). Here we changed the
Name and Info fields to be more informative (red arrows). The
Annotation / Notes field is used for longer descriptions that are
only displayed when you click on the yellow note icon in the history
panel. When you are done editing, click the Save button (green
arrow).
Note that if Galaxy ever guesses the type of a dataset incorrectly,
you can fix that here also (blue arrow); this is different than
actually converting the data from one format to another.
It is also good practice to name the history, so that when you have
several you can tell them apart. Double-clicking on the name at the
top of the history panel, in this case "Unnamed history", will allow
you to directly type in a new name, say
"SNP example 1"
(not shown). Press the Enter key to finish the edit.
